The cá độ trực tuyến Strategic Wildfire Prevention Initiative (SWPI) provides grant funding and guidance to BC communities to mitigate the threat of wildfire. Program guides and application forms for fuel management and FireSmart planning are now available for the recently announced initial 2018 intake.

Local governments and First Nations are invited to apply by February 23, 2018, for the fuel management Prescription, Operational Treatment & Maintenance and SWPI FireSmart Planning & Activities funding streams.

The Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) stream has been paused pending the results of the provincial review of 2017 wildfire and flood response, currently underway.  The Demonstration Project stream has been discontinued.

For 2018, the FireSmart Planning & Activities program stream is refocused on seven FireSmart disciplines:  education, vegetation management, planning for public spaces and buildings, development considerations, interagency cooperation, emergency planning, and cross training.

Approved FireSmart Planning & Activities projects will support communities to undertake activities and/or develop or advance local planning efforts that mitigate risk from wildfire on private lands in the wildland urban interface.  A table showing the FireSmart disciplines and associated eligible activities is provided in the Program & Application Guide.

SWPI is managed through the Strategic Wildfire Prevention Working Group, composed of the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society, the Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development, and the Union of BC Municipalities. Funding is provided by the Province of BC and is administered by UBCM.
