The Premier has appointed a three-person Rental Housing Task Force to review B.C’s Tenancy laws. The Task Force will consult with the public, landlords, tenants and other stakeholders and make recommendations to Premier Horgan and Minister Robinson in the fall.

The Task Force will consist of NDP MLAs Spencer Chandra Herbert (Chair), Adam Olsen, and Ronna-Rae Leonard, and will work through the summer to consider options to improve security and fairness for renters and landlords, while addressing affordability. This will include a review of existing laws, and innovative approaches in other jurisdictions.

The Province has previously made a number of announcements to assist renters, including additional supports as part of the 2018 budget.

As described in the announcement, the focus of the Task Force is broadly consistent with recommendations in UBCM’s housing report that call for a balanced approach to protect the interests of renters while providing adequate supports and incentives for landlords to ensure ongoing investment in rental housing.
